This unit examines the development of International Style Architecture in Houston, Texas, during the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. It highlights the roles played by several acclaimed architecture firms and figures in vaulting the city from relative obscurity onto center stage of innovative architectural design for some of its structures erected during that period. Then came the oil industry's economic bust of the mid-1980s, and major construction activities came to a virtual standstill.
