I have the pleasure of teaching kindergartners. Since they are so young, they are starting to discover the world around them. This unit will allow them to learn the benefits that traveling offers to the traveler and to become acquainted with the wonders of the known universe. In each of the stories that I have chosen to illustrate this topic, the main character experiences changes at some level as a result of the trip. In the case of Clark the Toothless Shark, Clark becomes a real, fierce shark after his journey. Lars, the polar bear, gains the knowledge that might make an adult of him when he goes back home. In Friends Go Adventuring, Charlie, Johnny and Percy run away from the farm in search of adventures and go back home to narrate them to their friends. And finally, in The Boxer and the Princess, Max learns how to interact with other “people” during his trip. My students will understand that traveling brings achievements, experiences, knowledge, and fun. Among other activities related to these stories, children will color maps differentiating between main landforms and bodies of water; they will learn about ocean life, the North Pole and the tropical regions. My students will have fun while they learn about math, language, sciences, and while they interact to peacefully help each other.
