The purpose of this cross-curricular unit is to combine mathematics (geometry) with physical science (electrical circuits) in order to provide my fifth-grade students with a challenging, yet fun, learning experience and provide an assessment tool for me. It is designed to be a culminating project that requires the students to design, furnish, and wire their own shoe box loft. In order to accomplish this task, the students will be demonstrating their knowledge of how electrical circuits are constructed, as well as applying their knowledge of geometry concepts such as: measuring area and perimeter, tessellations, tilings, and constructing three-dimensional figures.
