FILM: A PEDAGOGY FOR CULTURE GUIDE
Israel Iván Corona, César Chévez High School

Return

The use of textbooks as the only source of learning has long become antiquated. In order to assure that our students are engaged in learning it has become extremely important to use many different manipulatives. Curriculum must include activities for different learning styles, including audio and visual learning. It is my opinion that film is an excellent resource that can aid our students in learning culture. Through film, students can learn about history, geography, politics, socio-economics, and even the filmmaking industry itself. The right film can be a representation of many aspects found within culture, and therefore, it is a perfect tool for teaching foreign languages and cultures.
