Mark Sullivan, Revere Middle School

Return

With the coming of the No Child Left Behind legislation, schools are in need of finding new solutions for students' success. In addition to this, many public high schools are seeing at risk populations growing as math scores go lower. Teaching math concepts such as the bell curve can be done using everyday life experiences. It is the goal of this unit to demonstrate how many everyday concepts may be integrated into a math curriculum that is aimed for high achievement goals. The unit's intention to use integrated methods for involving students into math concepts on their own. Students will use computers to graph collected information. Data will also be collected from the internet or other sources where necessary. The ultimate goal will be for students to be self directed and self sufficient to collect data, organize, and plot it graphically.
